New Premier of Taiwan (R.O.C.) AIT Alumnus H.E. Dr. Mao Chi-Kuo

19 February 2015

Dear Members of the AIT Community,

While many in Asia are celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year of the Goat in 2015, which begins today on 19 February 2015, it is a perfect fit for me to invite members of AIT community to express our congratulations to one particular alumnus of AIT, who really makes us proud.

It is indeed a great honour and pride for me to inform all that the newly appointed Premier of Taiwan, H.E. Dr. Mao Chi-Kuo, is a distinguished alumnus of AIT. This is a new milestone for AIT, and the first time in the history of the Institute, that an AIT alumnus has been appointed as Premier or Prime Minister of a country.

Premier Mao Chi-kuo obtained a degree in civil engineering from the National Cheng Kung University in Tainan in 1971. He then completed his Master of Engineering in Community & Regional Development at AIT in 1975, and then a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in United States in 1982.

Before entering politics Premier Mao Chi-kuo pursued an academic career as well as various posts within government departments and became Minister of Transportation and Communications in 2008. He moved from there to become Vice-Premier in February 2013 before taking up this new appointment.

Premier Mao Chi-kuo’s full profile can be viewed at the below link:

AIT has graduated 860 alumni from Taiwan to-date and Premier Mao Chi-kuo is a true testimony to the success of our alumni in Taiwan, and to the immense contributions that they have collectively made towards the economic development and prosperity of the country.

On behalf of AIT, I would like to convey my heartiest congratulations to Premier Mao Chi-kuo, and all success in his tenure as the Premier of Taiwan.
